THE NC LEVY by Kevin York, Grade 8, North Central School Language Arts Assignment – Persuasive Argument

North Central Schools need this levy to pass. Without the levy this school will fall apart. Each time the levy fails, we end up just going down in money. Each time we have a new levy, the amount requested just goes up. Eventually, the school will shut down if it doesn’t get more money. Our school has great sports teams. With the levy failing, we keep losing players to other schools. Without the levy we won’t be able to afford gas for the buses. This would keep us from going to games, meets, and tournaments. We also couldn’t afford new equipment, so we would end up using the same old stuff every year. We also have to think about electricity and plumbing. Schools have to pay bills just like all adults. In the winter we have to use heating otherwise we will freeze and won’t be able to concentrate on our work. It is the exact same thing in the warm weather. We won’t concentrate on our work because we will be too hot. We need to go to the bathroom and wash our hands. Without plumbing we can’t do those things and students will have bad hygiene. Without the levy, our school may need to consolidate. If our school was to consolidate, we would have to pay that school’s taxes plus continue paying for our school building. This means we will pay more that what we need to. It will cost more to consolidate than to pay the increase from passing a levy. Also, if the school shuts down, the town will go down with it. Pizza Barn, Blaze & Babe’s, Sassy’s, Sooz, and the other shops will most likely go out of business.

Ashley Bailey – Freshman – North Central is just a school….yeah that’s what everybody thinks. To us, the kids, teachers, workers and parents of the kids – it is more! Who likes to move away from their friends, sports and academics? This school means so much to me and everyone else. We need everybody’s support! This school cannot die! The kids do not want to leave! We love NC Eagles!
